Posts from the ‘Reading’ Category

Its really a ‘worthy’ move for me !

I am finding new me in me. I was not like this a year ago, well I am stating all this in a positive note. The major change I am seeing in me, is the reading habit which has grown a lot in me. I was mentored, adviced and also received few friendly opinions too, which helped me in getting to know more about the importance of reading, the habit of reading to be more precise. There were few pals of mine, who were constantly reading either novels, articles etc; but I was more on outdoor sports, having a notion that, reading will never suit me.I had this notion, reading is just an activity which helps to kill time similar to playing or watching tv, but now I realised that, its more than killing time.

I would like to quote here ” Your mind is like a parachute which works best, when its open” . This is so true. How to open your mind? the answer is “Read as much you can” . It can be anything, any topic of your interest, our even some unknown topic which will help you to make the topic as known topic when your done with it ;).

Actually I should thank my close friend, who helped me to inculcate this habit into me. Continued, with reviews on various books etc which made a great impact on my thalamus :D.

I agree to this statement ” known is a drop and unknown is an ocean”, still I have got long way to go. Thanks to Internet, you have lot of information at your finger tips, you just need to known how to extract the data what you need. I donno why I am writting all this, but I just wanted to make an entry so that one day I can come back and see myself where I am stading .

Elders | We are there for you

“We believe that women and girls share equal rights with men and boys in all aspects of life.”

This powerful line says by itself Women and Men are equal in this society. But why there is a discrimination in this society. I would also like to quote an article from Human Rights, which says:

“Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status …”

There are so many great people who are fighting this “discrimination”. I came across a group called as “elders”. They are here to serve the needy.

“The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought together by Nelson Mandela, who offer their collective influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity.”

What they DO?

Their latest initiative is ” Equality for Women and Girls” here is the small statement about it.

“Religion and tradition are a great force for peace and progress around the world.

However, as Elders, we believe that the justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a higher authority, is unacceptable.

We believe that women and girls share equal rights with men and boys in all aspects of life.

We call upon all leaders to promote and protect equal rights for women and girls.

We especially call on religious and traditional leaders to set an example and change all discriminatory practices within their own religions and traditions.

The Elders are fully committed to the realisation of equality and empowerment of all women and girls.”

The Elders, 2 July 2009.”

Recession: The way of life

This recession has left lot of people to think before they do any kind of purchases, a recent survey done by McKinsey reports:

“90 percent of the US respondents said that their households had reduced spending as a result of the recession—33 percent of them “significantly” so. The survey, which included 600 households in three consumer segments comprising around 40 percent of all US homes,1 found that 45 percent of those who reduced spending did so by necessity, 55 percent by choice”

So this says it clearly that, people now a days are very cautous and they don’t want to be left in streets without any money. This reports even says that, the borrowing rate has also come down.

“In the three months to the end of June 2008, net consumer mortgage borrowing turned negative for the first time since the Federal Reserve began tracking fund flows, in 1946. In the final three months of 2008, net consumer credit borrowing was negative for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2002. Across debt products such as credit cards, mortgages, auto loans, and personal loans, consumers said they were more likely to close or decrease balances than to open or increase them.”

People have started to save, this in turn has increased the deposit rates in banks. The report says:

“the personal-savings rate reached a 14-year high, 5.7 percent of disposable income, in March 2009”

The bottomline: People are really cautious now a days, they cut back their expenses in order to increase their savings. But only after this huge loss event called recession, why dint they think about this this earlier? The report even says that, people borrowed more money than their income, which in turn they couldnt manage to pay their EMI’s or Due’s. Spending more than your ability will always be dangerous anytime. My perception is Indians are really masters in this art – savings.  We normally have the tendency to save isn’t it ?

Abandonment to Re-marketing

There are so many online stores now, you can buy anything to everything on this world wide web. This in turn brings good amount of work for the “Web analysts”, who then starts investigating, Churning millions of data’s. When you enter a hyper mall and just do window shopping, there are very few chances that you will be noticed by shop owners. Unless you have been given a membership card, with advance RFID or something like that. But when you go to an online store, start from your landing page ” Your Watched” !

Web analyst can track your movements like, what page are you viewing, which page attracted you, are you shopping or just looking at videos etc.. This would help the analyst and the web owner to optimise the web site in accordance to the customer’s view point.

But the issue is, abandonment rate. well let me explain by an example. If I go to Amazon.com and start browsing for say a novel ” ABC”  and then I find that novel and then I add it to my cart, then while filling up the required information, suddenly I drop this idea of buying and leave and go to some other site or just close the window. This is called abandonment. Not necessary that, only if you drop the idea of buying is called abandonment, even when i set the conversion or rule as filling up the form, survey or subscribing to my newsletter and in the final stage you dont finish the rule. Its the same.

There is a report that, if we remarket to those who have abandon the cart within a day or even better on the same day, then there are chances that people would come back and finish the process. If we do it, after 3 days the chances is very less.

Forrester reports that an immediate follow up to an abandonment (within 30 minutes) of an abandonment would generate a staggering 89% open rate, and conversion of 26%.

Ad Sense: Tutorial

I came across this video on Google Adsense, It is a good resource to know about, analytics when integrated with google ad sense. Avinash Kaushik has explained it in a neat way, so even I could understand this clearly.

PS: Couldn’t blog for a long time, will soon update with some interesting news on web analytics.

Why and who should know about Web Analytics:

  1. You can identify which site referrer is sending traffic and revenues to your site.
  • You never know from where your getting the traffic, is it from Google search engine, or any other search engine or is it from some other site, is it from any of your affiliates. So when we start using web analytics, we can track it down.
  1. You can see which product or service is more viewed or liked.
  • There might be thousands of products displayed in your site or there might be different services offered to your customers, but with the help of web analytics, you can see which is the most popular service or the product(s). so you can concentrate on that particular service or product.
  1. If you had done any kind of marketing campaigns, who could know which one yielded more results.
  • You must have done lots of e mail campaign or done any kind of promotional campaigns for your company by online method, you can see the ROI of those campaigns using this analytics. This will tell you which the best campaign was.
  1. You can measure the impact of the online channel in general; see how your online business is doing.
  • This tells you how your company is doing in the online stream in general, should you concentrate on brick and mortar method of doing business or should you go with online alone.
  1. You can see your potential target customers, and try to get business from them.
  • You can see who will be your customers, prospective customers, members etc. you can see from which place are they from. So you can immediately convert those prospective ones to your real time customers.
  1. You can analyse your visitors click stream, see which pages, links they click.
  • This is self explanatory, you can generally see which pages they click and how long they stay in that page and where do they go from that page.
  1. You can also start cross-selling, by giving some recommendations on other products, when your selling your product(s)
  • If your company has lots of products in the same category, you can start cross selling. Why don’t you suggests or give some recommendations of products to they customers when they buy any product from your website?
  1. You can see if you need to add any new stuff to your site, like new theme or content in general.
  • Again, this is self explanatory. You can think on adding new stuffs to your website or enhance the site by adding new themes or pattern etc..
  1. Sometimes visitors uses some keywords in your site, you can track them in order to develop new product line from it.
  • Grab those key words; they are so vital that you can use those keywords for your Google ad word marketing too. You can develop some products too.
  1. Last but not the least, you can find errors in your pages, Website.
  • To err is human, so find those errors and make your site beautiful.

We can add more reasons, but these should be in your top of your mind always.. Now lets see WHO should use this..
